Talking to Nona about birth, names, growing up
Nona and Jesper brain storming ideas for her baby's name. She suggests Una.
Jesper: "Name baby 'Una'?"
Nona: "Yes!"
"Is like Ona's name."
"Yes, is similar, huh? Is pretty name! Might have to ask Ona for permission, if it is okay!"
"Hehehe... Ona is very nice. Can not see it being a problem!"
I originally considered that giving birth for wild imps was more of a, community event. Everybody huddling around in an attempt to help. I now imagine that imps go kinda extra feral and hiss and push away their own friends and bondmates, attempting to deliver naturally and by themselves. If help is needed, everybody is on standby and would most likely be accepted. In Nona's case, I imagined that she was incredibly fearful and allowed Nia to help her deliver, but didn't want Lon near her until awhile after.
Been picturing Nona telling Jesper about it after he asks. He'd never been present for any birth, isn't fully aware of the process and isn't particularly imaginative, so he has questions and Nona's answers don't really make him convinced it's worth it...
Jesper: "Was very scared to become mother to Baby?"
Nona: "Yes! I have only seen a baby born a few times. Nia told me she would help, but hearing from another what will happen is not very helpful at all!"
"But is okay now!"
"Yes, /now/." (Nona laughs) "Is okay /now/. Was lots of blood and hurt very bad."
"Is not good."
"Was /not/ good! And have not heard any others talk about the pain of wings! Jesper! Is very sharp to pass!"
"Yes! Sees! Does not want to think of!"
He does ask her about Kena as a baby, but she says that she wasn't born yet, that Kena was already an adult when she was born.
Jesper: "Did Nona see Kena as baby?"
Nona: "No... did not. Kena was grown when I was born."
"Hehehe---Kena as baby. Would be very small!"
"Yes!"
"Maybe---hehehe---still angry baby imp? Perhaps?"
"No... can not imagine such an angry baby imp! Must have been playful as most are. Would be funny to imagine! Grumpy baby with that sour face."
"YES---hehehe!"
Ona isn't a particularly "old" elder. She's probably fifteen or twenty at max. With Kena around ten, I get the impression that Kena was with her when she founded the current cluster. There's only one new adult generation, with the second generation just about starting. Ona is probably one of the only few who had ever seen Kena as a juvenile.
I'm placing Nona and Nia's ages at 7 and 8 so that way they're between Sol and Kena, where they both wouldn't have seen Kena as a juvenile or young enough to be a playmate with Sol growing up. (Since adulthood is around age 3.) Sol was the only juvenile at the time she was growing up, so she didn't have playmates, and Kena was adamant about keeping her safe which only scared away potential friends.
The two imps that nursed and raised her are currently nameless, but kinda on the outskirts of imps that she speaks to.
Jesper: "Nona did see Sol as baby?"
Nona: "Yes, did see!"
"Was told by Kena---Sol was very small!"
"Yes! Very small. Hold out your hand, Jesper." (He does, Nona unfurls his claws) "Maybe could fit Sol right in Jesper's palm back then!"
"AHH!" (Jesper screams before falling into laughter)
"Curled up, sleeping, no wings, very tiny! Kena came in that night, went to Ona, showed Ona baby Sol. Baby Sol was so very tiny! (Mother 1) and (Mother 2)'s babies were double the size!"
"But baby imp is so tiny! Nona's baby is tiny!"
"Yes, but Sol was much smaller! Kena kept her wrapped close for a long time!"
Nona will eventually lose that maternal instinct towards her baby similarly to Sol's "mothers", and become more of an acquaintance.
I do think Sol views Nia and Nona as, probably the closest equivalent would be, as aunts, but are also her closest friends. Nona, Lon, and Nia are the closest with Jesper outside of Sol and Kena. Besides Ona, he's pretty much at an acquaintance (but very friendly) level with everyone else.
