Kena's twin brother, Kona
I saw a car that was apparently called a Kona. And I thought to myself. That's very close to Kena. And then another thought struck me which was...
Kena having a twin brother.
Familial ties are loose and mostly forgotten in the wild imp world. It would be rare for one of them to turn to their parent as an adult and look at them still in that way. Same goes for imps that are technically siblings or half siblings.
Sol is sort of an exception here, as she may in the future want to meet her mother. But she's an exception to most rules.
Twins, however, are another exception! I was envisioning twins as two imps that are typically very close, learn from each other, and there's a good chance they'll form a bond or join a bond together. Twins are very rare to have for a wild imp, so this case happening is pretty infrequent.
I've had it down in my head that when Ona left her original cluster to form the current cluster, Kena was one of the adult imps that left with her and several others. I've kind of had a gap in my brain as to why Kena left that cluster other than just being a very good hunter that could provide for a newly formed group.
And to add misery to this little guy's life, I've been mulling it over that Kena lost his twin brother Kona. When and how, I don't exactly know. Whether injury or sickness, I'm not sure, but I do know a few things.
One is that Kena and Kona were glued together into adulthood and were very skilled hunters who learned from others and practiced almost at a constant. Ambushing each other, tackling, tracking and trapping... You name it. It made them smarter, more careful, and very skilled.
I know that my friend has told me that they were this sibling, but I also believe that, if I had a sibling, I would have shared this dynamic: Kena was actually the more timid of the two. Reserved and last to speak up. Skittish. Kona spoke up for him a lot and made hard attempts to help him speak more openly.
After Kona passed, Kena became more of how he is now. Fueled by some... Quiet anger and distrust of others... (Which may be a hint to Kona's passing?) But he used these feelings in his hunting and mainly used that as an outlet.
When Ona began to look for imps willing to form a new cluster with her, Kena was one of the first to volunteer himself to help. He wanted to be away from where he knew, and where he grew up with Kona.
I keep getting the feeling (and it could be that spring is finally here and the sun is out a bit more these days) that Kena is reminded of his brother most during the warmer months, thinking back on all their summer time hunting and practicing together.
Which. Actually answers a question I had. Because Kena raised Sol and named her himself, I was considering that her name was in some form of indirect tribute to his brother... :) So drawing that sunny connection from his brother would be sweet.
I do not think Sol is aware of Kona and Kena has never mentioned him. Ona knew Kona, and of his passing, but respects Kena's wishes to keep it private, and would not deliberately bring him up.
