Wild imp wings, Jesper's sick, bag, etc.,
Man, I am exhausted today, so my thoughts are brief. Here's what I'm jotting down so I don't forget:
• Sol is very tiny, so she has very little wings! She has troubles flying for long, and can only do it in short bursts. This also means she can't fly up too high, as it becomes pretty taxing on her. The group of imps, especially Kena (as her bondmate), were already very protective of her because of her size, but the inability to fly for long distances contributes to their defensiveness.
• I also had drawn it where the example of an imp I drew had tattered wings, but I'm clarifying for my audience of 1 that that is not the case from birth lmao. I'm thinking their wings are generally shaped like bat wings with a bunch of variations:
• I have this micro-scenario in my head where Jesper is sick, but in his bag recovering. Thinking about, by then, Kena and Sol would have at least briefly spoken to Yarrow. Love the idea of them hesitantly knocking on the door, Yarrow answering, Kena getting in front of Sol defensively as she's asking if Jesper is around. They're both incredibly hesitant, but kinda hoping it would go where Yarrow would invite them in despite Jesper being technically away... Inviting Sol and Kena to just... sit in Jesper's bed pile and cradle his bag.
This leads me to a sub-thought, that Jesper can hear outside of his bag while in it, which is mostly so he could be summoned when needed, as a domestic imp. But I like this because it leads to many possibilities... when Yarrow uses him as a weighted blanket, would Yarrow still speak to him? Would Yarrow tell Sol and Kena that he can hear them? -That they can still talk to him? (My brain tells me being told this would actually make the two of them feel a little more welcome/at ease in the house.)
Love the possibilities that could go... I know it's sappy and lame, but like, I love the idea of Yarrow still being able to tell Jesper small things---or maybe he would even sing his dorky little songs to him, knowing Jesper could still hear them. I'm making it canon that even when asleep in his bag, Jesper is still aware in some way, that he could laugh at Yarrow's little jokes, songs, whatever he's saying, even if Yarrow wasn't aware of it. (I think when Jesper actually sleeps outside his bag though, he's straight out. Nothing is getting through. He's out cold. You're gonna have to shake him awake to tell him something.)
Anyway, long thoughts short, basically thinking Kena, Sol and bagged up Jesper would look like... two cats curled up in a sleep pile with the bag. In their den, I imagine the imps would sleep more sprawled out, relaxed, but instead imagining them half-sleeping curled up tightly, like cats, around Jesper's bag. Bonus points: can Yarrow offer them dinner when they wake up???? Can everybody have sleepy post-nap soup together...
• I know Jesper's bag was drawn twice now as a leather bag, and his toyhouse page currently says that it's leather, but I've been considering, like Yarrow's bag, that it would be more like a linen messenger bag. My main reasoning was, well, it's cute, secondly, soft, and thirdly, I've been considering having it made in a way that there'd be a knot that made it adjustable. Sort of like these, but without the modern zippers, etc.,:
In one of my early writings, I wrote about Jesper carrying his bag in a rucksack. I think I was picturing something smaller, like, a belt pouch or satchel, initially. But with it being an actual bag, I keep picturing this idea that Yarrow has told Jesper he's allowed to take and use his own bag, because he isn't his owner. Jesper isn't owned by anyone. A concept like this, I don't think initially made much sense to him, and I still think Jesper has a feeling of being bonded to Yarrow in some way, so he's always a little hesitant to actually use his own bag, but I am mushy for the symbolism of Jesper owning his own freedom, quite literally. (Dobby getting gifted a pair of socks for real over here, how original.)
But in a more literal way, I also just love him shortening it up so that he can wear it, and using it to help Yarrow collect fruits and veggies hehe.
